League City's Holidays Swing Between League Park and South Shore Harbour

November 5, 2026

On November 19, a gingerbread house about six feet tall goes on display at South Shore Harbour Resort. It's made with nearly 400 pounds of gingerbread and decorated with detailed candy work, and it stays up through January 2, 2027. Back in the historic district, the decorated gazebo in League Park and the tall Christmas tree make the other half of the pair. Visit League City lists the park's gazebo, ornament bench, and tree alongside the gingerbread house in its Winter Wonder holiday guide as photo spots for holiday cards.

Those two places are where League City's 2026 holiday season happens. The season opens at the harbor, spends two weekends under the oaks at League Park off Main Street, and goes back to the water on December 12, when the Clear Lake boat parade starts from a League City marina. If you know which weekend belongs to which place, you know where to park, where to stand, and when to show up early.

The harbor goes first, the weekend before Thanksgiving

Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre holds its Sugar Plum Fairy Gala weekend at South Shore Harbour Resort on November 20 and 21. On Friday, November 20, Dinner with Clara & Friends runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at Paradise Reef Restaurant. You can arrive anytime in that window, nightgowns are encouraged, and the Nutcracker Boutique opens for preview shopping afterward. On Saturday, November 21, there's a gala breakfast from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and a tea from 2 to 4 p.m. Both include boutique shopping, a sneak preview of The Nutcracker, and photos with the Sugar Plum Fairy. The breakfast is already listed as sold out, so the tea is the one still open. For tickets, start at the company's Sugar Plum gala page.

The ballet company comes back throughout the season, at League Park and on stage at UHCL, so this weekend is also a good first look at the dancers you'll keep seeing through December.

Saturday, November 28 is League Park's long day

Nutcracker in the Park runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the Saturday after Thanksgiving at League Park, 512 2nd Street. Visit League City calls it a Shop Small Saturday event. It has an outdoor holiday market of local makers, crafters, artists, and small businesses, and food trucks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you're coming for lunch, keep that four-hour truck window in mind, since the market stays open for four hours after the trucks leave.

The kids' ballet classes are offered in partnership with Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre. Each 30-minute class with Nutcracker ballerinas includes instruction, music from the ballet, a character meet-and-greet, photos, and a holiday goodie bag. Classes start at 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 a.m. Space is limited and you have to register ahead through the Eventbrite class page.

The city's own calendar adds the evening event. The Tree Lighting Ceremony runs from 6 to 7 p.m. at League Park, starting right when the market closes. If you go in the late afternoon, you can shop, walk over to the Shoppes at Founder's Square and the other historic district boutiques Visit League City points to, and be back at the park when the tree lights up.

December 4 to 6 fills the park for three days

The 29th annual Holiday in the Park is the biggest event of the season at League Park. It's hosted and planned by the League City Proud Organization, and Visit League City describes its Saturday parade as the largest holiday parade in Galveston County. Each day of the official schedule has a different feel, which makes it easier to pick your day.

Day Hours What sets it apart
Friday, Dec. 4 4 to 9 p.m. Vendor market with over 150 booths, Clear Springs Silverados dance at 6:00, Mrs. Claus reading at 6:20, Rudolph and Frosty on screen at 6:30
Saturday, Dec. 5 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Children's costume parade, daytime performances, Holiday Art Contest, Grand Night Parade on Main Street
Sunday, Dec. 6 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extraordinary Individuals Parade, Santa at the gazebo, Faithful Friends Holiday Pet Parade

Friday is the easy night. You can grab dinner from a food truck, watch the movies in League Park, and get free popcorn and hot cocoa from the League City Chamber.

Saturday is the full day. Kids line up in front of Butler's Courtyard on 2nd Street for the free Children's Holiday Costume Parade, which starts at 10 a.m. They walk to the League Park gazebo for a free photo with Santa, and you'll need to bring your own camera. At midday, the Galveston Ukulele Society plays under the oaks at 11:50, and Ethereal Flight Squad does aerial performances on the lawn in front of the gazebo from noon to 3 p.m. High school students who live in League City, grades 9 through 12, can register at 10:30 a.m. for the free Holiday Art Contest. It runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. between the gazebo and the fountain, and scholarships go to the top three at 3:20 p.m.

The evening runs on a tight schedule. Music and performances start on Main Street at 5:30 p.m.

  1. 5:55 p.m.: Historic St. Mary's Church rings its bells.
  2. 6:00 p.m.: National Anthem.
  3. 6:30 p.m.: The Grand Night Parade officially starts.
  4. 6:55 to 9 p.m.: Floats travel down Main Street toward Park Street.

That gap between the 6:30 start and the floats reaching the crowd matters if you have small kids. Getting to your spot before the bells means you'll be seated for most of an hour before the first float arrives.

Sunday is the slowest day. Registration for the Extraordinary Individuals Parade opens at 10:30 a.m. in the children's play area, and the parade starts at 11. Santa is at the gazebo from noon to 2 p.m. Pet parade registration opens at 12:30 and closes at 12:45, with the Faithful Friends Holiday Pet Parade starting at 1:30 p.m. Grand Night Parade awards and the raffle drawing are at 4:40, and closing ceremonies follow at 4:50. That pet parade registration window is only 15 minutes, so plan around it if you're bringing a dog.

Holiday in the Park weekend is also Nutcracker opening weekend

Bay Area Houston Ballet & Theatre opens The Nutcracker at the Bayou Theatre at UHCL on December 4, the same day Holiday in the Park starts. Performances run December 4 to 6, 11 to 13, and 17 to 20. If you want to do both on the first weekend, Sunday's earlier, shorter park schedule leaves more room for a show. The two later weekends of performances don't overlap with League Park at all.

So the ballet company shows up at the start of the season at the harbor, in the middle at League Park, and on stage in December. If your kids took a class on November 28, they can see the same dancers in the full production a week or two later.

December 12 takes the season back to the water

The 65th annual Christmas Boat Lane Parade, produced by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, is on Saturday, December 12, 2026. League City is one of the six presenting cities, along with Clear Lake Shores, Kemah, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, and Webster. One of its two starting points is South Shore Harbour Marina in League City.

The Chamber's parade page lays out the day. Skippers have a mandatory meeting at 9 a.m. at South Shore Harbour Resort, 2500 South Shore Blvd. At 6 p.m., fireworks over Nassau Bay signal the start. Boats from the Nassau Bay Lagoon head down the Constellation Pointe/Davis Road Canal and join the boats coming out of South Shore Harbour Marina. Then the whole group travels the length of Clear Lake and through the Kemah Channel. The Chamber says to look for the parade entering Seabrook and the Kemah Boardwalk around 7:30 p.m. More than 60 decorated power and sailboats take part, and the Chamber says more than 100,000 people traditionally watch.

Watching near the start puts you on the water right at 6, which is about 90 minutes before the boats reach the Boardwalk. These are the Chamber's public viewing spots, starting with the ones closest to League City:

  • South Shore Harbour Marina
  • Davis Road Canal/Constellation Pointe
  • Nassau Bay Lagoon
  • Clear Lake Shores
  • Both sides of the Kemah/Seabrook Channel
  • Kemah Boardwalk

According to Visit League City, the parade started more than six decades ago when five Bay Area friends decorated their boats and cruised Clear Lake. One of them was Red Adair, the oil well firefighter John Wayne played in Hellfighters, and today's top prize is the Red Adair Award for Best Overall Boat.

Earlier the same day, Visit League City lists Christmas in Old League City from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the historic district. It includes the Airing of the Quilts outside historic homes, Porch Parties with music and art, vintage cars and trucks parked along the streets, and demonstrations at the League City Historical Society museum at 210 North Kansas Avenue. The Historical Society's own page shows different dates for the event and for its $15 WALKabout tour, which requires an advance reservation. Check leaguecityhistory.org before you plan your day around it. If the December 12 date holds, you can spend the day in the historic district and the evening at the marina.

After the parades, the lights move to neighborhoods

Once the last parade is done, the season spreads out across town. The city's Holiday Light Show Map lets residents submit their homes, and Visit League City has scheduled the Community Lights Showcase for December 20. You can also do the Nutcracker Scavenger Hunt anytime this season. Download the free Visit League City TX! app, find the nutcrackers hidden at parks, historic spots, and landmarks, and scan their QR codes for a prize and entries into a swag drawing.

If you need a warm-up during any of the League Park weekends, League City Scoop Shop and Wayside Coffee Co. share a storefront at 610 E. Main St. The League City Herald reported they opened in August, so this will be their first holiday season.

At Nova Gen Realty Group, we keep a running list of the local calendar because these events are a big part of what living in League City looks like week to week. If you have family visiting for Holiday in the Park, or you're planning a move and want to see the town on a parade weekend, reach out and we'll help you plan the details. Schedule a consultation.
